Where's Malik Now?

Today I presented the workshop ""Drupal Basics - Made Super Extra Special Easy"

I recieved positive feedback from the attendees. I already have some ideas on how to make the session better next year based on a few thoughts that were shared by the commuity members that were in attendance:

  • Do the class for a smaller group with an organized and well thought out and implemented hands-on segment (Do-Yo-Thang-and-Take-It-Home-Kids)
  • More time for the Hands-on approach (my first thought is 3 hours minimum with strict pre-requisites)
  • Have workshop attendees all have a GoDaddy account ready for doing their work in as well as example files that they can use for all the steps that assure that they are not allowed to make mistakes that would potentially waste their time with little annoyances
  • Book and learning resource list available for circulation
  • Hosting provided by a workshop sponsor that would give 180 day accounts to workshop attendees at no cost to the attendee - no strings attached for learning purposes
  • Provide a Map - visualization of how all the software elements and such of Drupal fit together and Glossary - given all the specialized vocabulary a list of it all with simple definitions would be a precious addition to a class named like this one was
  • Link list made available on paper and on-line that points to where all the known knowledge links are that are considered in the class that is cared for and updated for those who are loosing links to time and progress

With these additions and work I think that we could build a basics course that could take the greenest person and give them enough information to see how it is done in a complete way. It would also serve to really allow people to see what they are getting themselves in for up front.

I will post the course outline and an audio file of the class as soon as I figure out precisely how to most efficiently do that in this arena.

If you are here and you attended the lecture. Please feel free to add some comments about how you thought it went and what you would like to see in the future from this kind of workshop. Please keep in mind this was one of my first on the Drupalverse so be gentle with me - I am virgin...
